My Biggest Management Problem

Life, itself is a big complicated management problem. Constantly planning, managing, and interacting with people, either at work or at school or the asshole on the train that is hogging all the leg space, forcing you to sit uncomfortably through out the whole train ride. A current management problem I'm facing is just the complications of life, its hitting me hard in the face. Just about a week ago i got laid off at my job. Its understandable, times are hard... i mean at least i don't have a family to raise right? However, I am a college student in a debt because i spend more than i can make. The first problem i faced was how to tell my parents, actually just my mother, whose biggest fears is for her three daughters to be unemployed and leeching off of her money. Went through that stage without a sweat, she was surprisingly understanding and also considerate. The next thing i have to manage is what am I going to do now? I am torn between looking for job or put all of my concentration on school and just maybe live off of financial aid. There are many things on hand that i have to consider, school is important. however, having a job and the experience is equally important to me. Also, i need the income to pay my bills, eat, live, everything requires cash cash cash! After much thinking and planning, I've decided that I would take a break from work, maybe just a couple of weeks before looking for a job again. Hopefully by then, the economy would be better and hopefully I will be back in business.

  1. Hey, it sucks that you were laid off. With the economy the way it is right now many people are. I think right now is best for you to focus on school while looking for an internship in the summer. Yes everything does require money, lol, well maybe Financial Aid covers some food money? haha. Well good luck with the job search!

  2. First of all, we all know that how bad the economy is these days. That's not your fault of being laid off. Also, it's not a bad idea to take a few weeks break before getting a new job.

Still, we can do something in to react to the stituation. First of all, i think it will help us a lot, if we can change our habit a bit. As you said, you are "a college student in a debt because [you] spend more than i can make." , you can think twice before you rushing for any items. Balance between how much you have and how much you can manage to spend is important. Don't make yourself in debt. I read one magazine acticle telling people to record how and how much they spend everyday, in this way you will find out your spending habit. I found it really helpful, since I found out how terrible my spending habit was..-.-"

so, try to change our bad habits little by litte. We will earn a lot ( in some ways). Good luck on your job hunting =)

  3. Ouch getting laid off really does suck, but hey what I can I say except Times are Rough, spending more then you have is a bad habit that most people tend to do especially college students, I would suggest trying to enjoy life at the same time, perhaps try doing work study at school or work less hours when you do find a job so it won't compromise your grades. I wish you luck on your job hunt.

  4. Hey Ying, it's unfortunate that you got laid off, but there will be many more chances in the future since you're still young, and you are majoring in accounting after all. As for deciding on whether you want to focus on school or a job, is really up to you. Would you really use that extra time to tackle your school work or will you just procrastinate even more? Like for me, I'm always so busy, but I kind of like it that way. Just cause I know no matter what there's always something to do, always something to finish or start. It really depends on the type of person you are, but over spending is not good. SO maybe you can use this unemployment as a way to help you manage your spending habits! maybe Ying, just maybe.

    Your classmate,
    Simon

  5. I'm sorry to hear that you got laid off, but like everyone said, it's a tough time and keep looking. I totally feel you about the money situation. It's so frustrating thinking about money and how you're going to pay off the stuff you buy. I just got cut off from my parents cause I just got a job, and it's so hard for me to adjust. I've always known that I'm a big spender, but having to pay for it myself it's completely different. So I'm just trying not to buy so much, but I'm sure you know how hard it is for a girl to stop shopping haha. By the way, I hope you can find a job the before the shitty economy gets better.
